Shikoku (1999)

Synopsis: After moving to Tokyo and living there for many years, Hinako returns to the island of Shikoku, her homeland. She learns that Sayori, her childhood friend, has died and that Sayori's mother has gone insane and is overcome with grief. As strange things happen on the island, she reunites with another childhood friend, Funiya, to find out what's wrong. Together, they discover that Sayori's mom, who is a priestess, has been going on a pilgrimage to the 88 temples on the island. However, she visits the temples in reverse order so that she can resurrect her dead daughter because it was said that visiting the temples in reverse order will release the spirits of the dead.
