We see them every day, most are instantly forgettable, however some are very memorable and are works of art that deserve more recognition.
So what are your Favourites? Here are mine.
Pulp Fiction-Great reproduction of the classic noir femme fatale,an iconic image.
Silence of the Lambs-Inspired by the photographic piece by Philippe Halsman entitled Salvado Dali Volupate mors which in its self was inspired by one of Dali's own works,if you look closely the skull on the moth is made up of human bodies, art imitating art, imitating art if you will.
The Descent-An even more vivid homage to the works mentioned above.
Straw Dogs-A hard hitting, brutal and visually striking image perfectly mirrors the theme of the movie it portrays.
Shaun of the Dead-Love this one,the tag line says it all!

This movie poster made me stop and look at it while I passed it. At the time, I had already read the book and loved it and when I heard there was going to be a movie, I was awaiting the movie. :D |

Why do you people post topics that force me to ramble? Alright, uh...I narrowed it down to 10. Yeah. Sorry. But I promise I won't talk TOO much about them! But I can't just throw the posters out there and not explain why I like them.
I immediately thought of this poster when I saw the topic. Why's it effective? Well...The movie's called The Evil Dead, and...a zombie's choking a chick. That's pretty evil, yes?
Simple, effective. You can look at this poster and you get kind of a graphic novel-y feel, just because of the lack of complex colors. It's another Frank Miller adaptation, so you can kind of see the similarities between this poster's style, the 300 poster (already been posted), and the Sin City poster (I decided to go with this one instead). Red is attention-grabbing, first and foremost. On top of that, while you're looking, you notice--holy fuck that's a vampire! And then, combining that with the film's title, you think, oh, that's probably a bad thing. You know, since vampires are out at night and...yeah. Moving on.
Little girl in a bear trap. Can't get much more symbolic than that. Red Riding Hood in a bear trap, no less. Doesn't need much explaining.
Also doesn't need much explaining. The movie is supposed to be sort of film noir style, whodunit, Hardy Boys type stuff. Therefore, the poster takes on that style. I'm pretty sure everyone's seen the old school book covers for teen mysteries.
I just like this because it's simple and striking. I mean, a helmet with Born to Kill scrawled on it is pretty alarming.
It's not really a secret that this is one of my favorite movies. But the poster is pretty damn badass, too. It's incredibly detailed, and essentially lays out the whole story of the movie. On the left, you have the ancient battle between good and evil, on the right, the new, modern battle. And in the middle, the boy that's--duh--at the center of this battle. His face is broken because that's what happens when you kill a vampire in the movie--they break like porcelain. The birds are a bit important, as they swarm around a particular character. And the reflection in the eye is just cool. I just love this movie and the poster to bits.
These two are awesome. In case it wasn't clear, I'm drawn to red, haha. Anyway, they both have an old-school feel to them, the second poster more so. I prefer the second, just because it's reminiscent of the old-school propaganda posters, and the wording is fashioned to be that way as well. It also just looks worn, with manufactured folds and whatnot, as though it had been passed around a few times. The first poster has scratches on it to give it an old feel, but the second's more effective at that, I think. Though, the eyes on the first poster pull you in and make you go wtf.
Last two! Another pair of sequels. The first is an Asian poster (I don't know what country, I suck). I like it because it does prepare you for gore without being overly smacked in the face with gore on the poster. But of course, you can tell somethin' ain't right since his head's totally on the wrong side, haha. The second poster I find to be very awesome. There aren't even any hints at gore. Just a woman, upside down, clearly in distress. The colors are muted, as is the woman (the words are covering her mouth). The second movie is (slightly) less goretastic than the first, so it's fitting that the poster is very simple and not bloody. |
