Booth (2005)

Director: Yoshihiro Nakamura

Cast: Ryuta Sato
Hijiri Kojima
Mansaku Ikeuchi
Makoto Ashikawa

Synopsis: Shingo Katsumata is the popular host of a late night radio program called "Tokyo Love Lines". One day, at the station, there was a sudden change of studios and he had to use a different, unfamiliar one. A studio which came complete with a legend, as back when the station first opened, an announcer died there, mysteriously.
This night Shingo's program began as usual with phone calls from listeners talking about problems with their love lives. The topic was "unpardonable words". He was listening to a caller, a grade school student, talking about her problems with boys and suddenly he heard eerie laughter and a different female voice whispering "liar".
Interference? If not, then what...? There was panic inside the studio but regardless the show had to go on. The accusing voice threatened Shingo on the air with suspicions, which recalled past betrayals and a young man's arrogance. It was as if Shingo had fallen victim to a curse and that he was being marked for death.

I just watched this film, and though I wasn't blown away I still found it entertaining.

I think the way you see everything from the main character's (he doesn't really warrant the term protagonist) perspective was pretty cool, and it added a claustrophobic feel to the scenes from within the booth. It's definitely not a typical horror film as there aren't any big scares and there is only very little blood, but I found it to be a refreshing change of pace after the last couple films I've seen.

This film was also very short at just over an hour, so it won't take up much of your time should you not enjoy it. I am choosing recommend because it is not a must-see, but it wasn't a waste of my time either.

saw it and wasn't too impressed. Pace was waaaay tooo slow, especially for a one hour some minutes film. But the spectre was pretty creepy though...

i enjoyed it.
I keep coming across asian horror movies that really should not be labeled as horror.
This one for example seemed more of a suspense mystery that just happened to have supernatural aspects.
Moonchild is exactly the same, an action movie that happens to have vampires in it while the story is not really focused on vampires.

I think this movie was ok. I'd say it was intriguing and suspenseful. I would say that this movie is an example of karma taking place.

Yeah, I agree.

***SPOILERS***

What did you all think when the girl turned back up in the studio? I thought she was the ghost (which I'm sure is what the director wanted me to think) that had been messing with him. I was quite surprised when she just started reading the news or whatever.

lol...that part threw me in for a loop! I was like....WTF?!! Clever tho. But honestly i couldn't really get into this movie. However, i did like the claustophic feel of the film. Hmmm....perhaps a 6.5 out of 10.

I would never call this horror, but I think it's a nice little movie. I liked the one room situation and also the slow pace. Think it's good for that kind of story. And I found the lead character quite convincing. Reminded me of a very annoying person I know. Maybe that's why I even enjoyed the ending, though you could tell what was going to happen.
