|
|
Hi,
If this is in the wrong section feel free to move it to where it beongs.
I am enjoying working my way through some of the films on this site, and some I wish to add to my DVD collection. I would like them to be in the origional region if possible and have the Japanese characters for the titles etc. Where is best to purchase such items, for some reason I expect world cinema to be cheaper, although this is quite egocentric.
Are there any sites which sell these at cheapish prices and confrom to the above requirements. i have looked on ebay but most are not there.
Thanks in advance. |

Well, I don't have a really good answer for you I'm afraid. We have a shop here in Dublin that carries a lot of world cinema at decent prices (20euro instead of 30+), but it's all in Region 2 format (Europe + Japan) and they have English titles and such. What country are you in?
I have found a few on eBay in multiple regions and languages, though it took some creative searching. I'm still waiting on my region-free copy of Recycle to arrive from Canada. When you do searches, look for links to related items... i.e. it may say displaying 6 of 13 items, so click on the 13 items to see the lot. Also look through some of the shops where you find similar items... often times you'll stumble upon something there that you didn't see in your search.
Good luck, mate.

I am in the UK. I will try some more in depth searching on ebay then as it probably the most likely place to find such things. I had forgotten all about shops though, we have a few which are a bit similar in selling world cinema, so i'll check them out. Online traders would be preferred though due to the ease of browsing.
Thanks. |

Actually, I meant the online shops that are registered with eBay, but you could probably find some great world cinema shops in London. I know the UK is a big place, so you may not be anywhere near London, but then again the UK isn't limited to only one major city like we are here in Ireland. It's funny, I moved from a city of 8million to a country of only 4million people.
Good luck on your search, and keep me posted on how it works out for you. |

Sorry to doublepost, but I found a couple 'shops' on eBay you may want to browse through. Not sure if you only want Japanese films, but they have lots of Asian DVDs. Not all of them have the original language characters, and they seem to vary in region coding as well, so look closely and read all the details before buying anything.
Here's a couple links for you:

Here's a shop I was just browsing with a lot of Asian films, and not just horror/thrillers either. They look to have the original language characters on the cases, though the guy says you have to buy two or more DVDs at a time and add $1US per DVD in order to get cases with them. He still sends the cover art and chapter sheets though even if you don't get cases.
Check 'em out... maybe you like, maybe you don't.
