Imprint
Director: Takashi Miike
Plot Summary :
"Have I got your attention, mister?" By the time you reach this line in Takashi Miike's Imprint, the answer will be a resounding, horrified "Yes!" This much-rumored-about episode of Showtime's Masters of Horror series became notorious as the first installment to be denied an airing. Now that the hour-long episode is out on DVD, it's not difficult to see why the network balked (although on the other hand, if you have a series called Masters of Horror and you hire the outrageous Takashi Miike to helm a show, nobody should really be surprised). The story follows an American (Billy Drago) on a journey to a ghostly island bordello in Japan; he's searching for a girl he lost years before. The prostitute he meets has stories to tell--and they abound in incest, abortion, murder, and one of the grisliest torture scenes ever produced for a mainstream outlet.
Cast (Credited cast) :
Billy Drago
Youki Kudoh
Toshie Negishi
All Title(s):

I bought this around Christmastime on sale because of my love/hate relationship with Miike. It's...interesting. Certainly not for people that are kind of squeamish. I expected it to be worse than it was, though. Still, a good episode of a great series.
As an aside--that little dude at the beginning? Is that the same guy from Twin Peaks? |

| It wasn't so much banned as it was just...not aired. Haha. I don't know why they didn't air it. It was either because it was a bit more graphic than they would've liked or some legal stuff. |

Those four words shouldn't even exist in relation to film, books, etc. As an American, it makes my stomach turn... what happened to the Land of the Free?
Ok, I can see some sense to certain bans (public smoking, or bombs for example), but these are works of art... and fictional art at that! |

True, banning shouldn't exist when it comes to forms of art. Art is made for a reason right? Art is a representation of an individual. People (in the U.S.) don't often accept artistic creativity from foreign countries because to them, it isn't the norm. |
