This movie didn't make sense to me. I think it was because some things were missing. I mean, the movie didn't feel complete to me. I think the unveiling about the spirals could have been done better. Also, if a little bit more information about the history of the spirals were revealed, it might not have been so mysterious. Cool

I think the director/writers wanted the movie to be mysterious... which is why there's never any explanation of the curse. That is, unless I just missed it.

This is a very strange movie, but I couldn't pull myself away from it once I got into it. The first ten or twenty minutes wasn't so great, and I almost turned it off early on, but once the spiral (vortex) madness gets rolling it's on.

I'm going to recommend this, but it's really nowhere near the best. If you like wierd movies though, this one is right up your alley! This would be highly recommended to anyone who ingests hallucinogenics.

I saw this one quite a while ago. I'd have to watch it again to write something substantial here. But I'm not going to do that since I remember that it was way to freaky for my taste. At least you cannot say it was lacking imagination. Laughing I would'nt call it a waste of time but I would only recommend it to people who want to check how weird a story can get.

That's probably because the manga the movie was based on wasn't even done by the time filming wrapped up. A lot of the explanation of the mystery surrounding the spirals and the towns relation to them wasn't revealed until the very end of the comic series. There's a bunch of different theories as to why they even tried to do a film adaptation when the original source material wasn't finished, but I'd say greed was the determining factor. Uzumaki the manga was incredibly hot at the time, and the movie studio (and the original creator, I'd imagine) wanted to capitalize on that when the comic series was at its peak of popularity.

Other than the let-down of an ending, I liked Uzumaki a lot. It's just so damn weird from beginning to end. And I'm not just talking about the story itself; everything about the movie was weird, from the really strange cinematography, to the fact that the director used a green filter to mimic the printing style of the original manga. The movie definitely isn't for everyone, but fans of oddball movies or the manga will enjoy it.
